Counseling for New Mothers (Pregnancy, Postpartum, Perinatal)

For new moms, it can be upsetting and frightening to have feelings about motherhood that don’t seem “right.” The majority of women (60-80%) experience “baby blues” similar to premenstrual symptoms (tearfulness, sadness, fatigue) that resolve in about 2 weeks. But many moms (1 out of 5) develop postpartum depression or anxiety that is more persistent and intense than the “baby blues.”

Talking to a therapist who has specialized training helping with new motherhood issues can be comforting, relieving, and enlightening. Please know that you are not alone, this is not your fault, and it will get better.

Have you had any of the following thoughts:

    • No one has ever felt as bad as I do
    • I have made a terrible mistake
    • I am all alone and no one understands me
    • I am a failure as a mother, woman, or wife
    • I will never be myself again
    • I’m losing it
    • I am on an emotional rollercoaster
    • I want to cry all the time
    • Everything is an effort
    • I feel like I’m in a fog
    • Sometimes I think everyone would be better off without me

If you have had one or more of those thoughts, I invite you to contact me. Together, we’ll find the underlying issues that are making you feel this way and create long lasting strategies for moving forward. All sessions are virtual so children and babies are welcome to be present if you do not have childcare. Please reach out, I’d love to talk about ways that I can help!
